Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge Day 10

Well, today’s the last day of the Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge and it’s been a lot of fun!  I am not normally into Hallowe’en, but this year has been lots of fun 🙂
Today is Any Hallowe’en Inspired Mani and I had never done candy corn nails, so what better time?!  I actually had to look up what colour order candy corns are in because I don’t think they are as popular here in Canada as they are in the States.  I have only just tried candy corn in the last month and though I LOVE dessert and anything with a sugar content, but these are way too sweet for me!  It’s like eating a chunk of icing sugar!
Anywho, onto the nails!  I always thought that candy corns were white, yellow, orange — progressive colour order.  But nope!  The orange is in the centre 🙂

These are the nails I am most proud of for this entire Challenge, weird, I know, because they are so simple, but I love how they turned out although my nails aren’t even close to candy corn-shaped 🙂
For this I used Sally Hansen Extreme Wear White On, Julep Parker (orange) and Julep Mystery Yellow.  I tried doing this tape-mani style, but it wasn’t working for me so I gave up and just free-handed the lines with the polish brush 🙂
What was your favourite design from the Challenge?
Here is what the entire Challenge looked like!  I want to thank Dahlia at SassyNails/datyorkLOVES for hosting this Challenge, it’s been so much fun celebrating Hallowe’en with all the lovely ladies that participated in the Challenge with me 😀

Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge Day 9

Well today seems to be a wild-weather day for most of us!  As I write this tonight, our hydro is flickering and we have some candles lit in case we lose it altogether.  I hope I can get this done and posted in time.  I hope all my readers that are along the Atlantic coast are battening down the hatches and are keeping safe.  Don’t worry, this post will still be here tomorrow or whenever your hydro comes back on.  For those of you who are in the States, in Canada when we say “hydro” we are referring to our power/electricity, in case you weren’t sure what I was talking about 🙂
For Day 9 of the Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge, the design is Pumpkins.  I will be the first to admit that the design I did does nothing for me, I’m a little disappointed in it actually 😦  It was much harder to draw jack-o-lantern faces on my nails than I was expecting.  And like with carving, it’s tricky to come up with something to draw/carve for each pumpkin 🙂
For this I used Julep Parker on my index, middle and pinky nails, and Julep Zoe on my thumb and ring nails. Then I used my Jordana Pop Art Black Mark striper polish to create the faces.  My favourite of the bunch is my middle nail, I love the little geeky guy 🙂  This is one that I would definitely like to “do-over”.
Here is what is left of the Challenge.  I can’t believe that there is only one day left, but I feel like I was slacking for this Challenge 😦  Dahlia at SassyNails/datyorkLOVES has done a great job keeping everyone on schedule, sending out friendly reminders for us 🙂
And as always, don’t forget to check out what the rest of the ladies are up to!

Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge Day 8

Whoa, I’m really starting to slack in the Nail Art Challenge area 😦  I’m sorry for all of you who have been looking forward to my entries for the Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge every few days.  Today, tomorrow and Tuesday will be dedicated to getting these done 🙂  I hope that everyone has been enjoying them so far!
Today I have for you Day 8, Witch nails 🙂

This design looked much better in my head, and looks much better in person, especially for the glow-in-the-dark part of it.
I used 1 coats of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On and painted one coat of Julep Sofia over top (glow-in-the-dark).
For my thumb nail I stamped BM plate 305.
For my index nail I used water nail decals from the Julep Trick or Treat Mystery Box.  These were pretty cool to use, but I wouldn’t specifically buy them.  They work the same way as temporary tattoos.
For my middle nail I hand painted a witch’s hat using my Jordana Pop Art nail art polish in Black Mark.  I then created the details on it with Julep Morgan and Harley.  My inspiration for this came from Sincerely Stephanie’s witch hat nails 🙂
For my ring nail I stamped on a haunted house with BM plate 305 and then created a French tip to look like the ground the house sits on in black.
For my pinky nail I used another of the water nail decals from the Julep Trick or Treat Mystery Box.
I like this, but I’m not in love with it.  I would definitely try this again, but I would probably skip on the water nail decals 😦  I was so excited for these, but I think with some practise they could be great and easy to use 🙂

Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge Day 7

Happy Sunday everyone!  I can’t believe the weekend is almost over again 😦  I think we should start working weekends and have out “weekends” through the week!
I have for you today my Day 7 design for the Nal-aween Nail Art Challenge that is being hosted by SassyNails/datyorkLOVES 🙂  Today’s Challenge is Spider Webs.  Now, I know a lot of people are scared of spiders, but I’m not 🙂  I’m actually the one that has to kill them for Tyler 😉  Don’t get me wrong, I hate walking into cobwebs as much as anyone else, but spiders themselves don’t bother me if I come across one 🙂

For this design I used Avon Blue Shock as my base colour and then took L’Oréal I Will! and a small nail art brush to create the spider webs.  Then I took my Jordana Black and my nail art brush to create spiders on my thumb and ring nails 🙂
I like the way these turned out, though I would have loved having a stamping plate with the spider web design on it as spider webs should have thinner lines and I think the only way that would have been achieved is by stamping, unless I had a teeny tiny, single hair paint brush.
Here is what is left of the Challenge, I can’t believe it’s almost over already!  October has gone by way too fast 😦  Although, that means we are closer to the November Nail Art Challenge hosted by moi, and CHRISTMAS!! 😀

Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge Day 6

Good morning lovely ladies!  I’m so glad it’s almost the end of the week!  How about you?  Are you guys ready for the weekend?
I have for you today Day 6 of the Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge that is being hosted by SassyNails/datyorkLOVES.  Today’s Challenge is Frankenstein!  I have seen Frankenstein nails over at Swatch and Learn when I first found her blog (I spent days cruising through her posts 🙂 ) so I went back and she is what inspired my design!  (Mary if you’re reading this, I LOVE all of your nail art and your blog!)
First I’m going to show you Mary’s Frankenstein nails:
Source
Aren’t they so cute!?  And here are mine 🙂  I didn’t have the same green as Mary used, so I just pulled what I thought was “Frankenstein green” out of my collection 😀

For my design I used one coat of Avon Electric Green for the base colour.  Then I did Frankenstein’s hair and mouth with my Jordana Pop Art striper polish in Black Mark.  I used the polish brush from my Sally Hansen white that I got in my at-home French manicure kit for the eyes, then used the striper polish again for the pupils.

I like Mary’s better, though I’m pretty happy with my little guys 😀  Although, Middle Frankenstein like he’s not in a very good mood, lol!

Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge Day 5

Happy Monday everyone!  The start of another work week (and I already want to crawl back into bed!), and we’re half way through October already, can you believe it?!  In 17 days time Hallowe’en will be over and all the stores will be filled with Christmas stuff!!!  Who’s ready for the Christmas season?  Who has started their shopping already?
Today’s nails are Day 5 of the Nail-aween nail Art Challenge that is being hosted by SassyNails/datyorkLOVES.  Today’s Challenge is Ghosts and Goblins.  Because I don’t know how to paint a goblin on my nails I went for ghosts 🙂
Although Hallowe’en is supposed to be “frightful” I think these guys are rather cute 🙂
I used Jordana Black for the base colour and Sally Hansen white that came in an at home French manicure kit 🙂

Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge Day 4

Hey everybody!  Happy Friday 😀  I hope everyone as some exciting plans for the weekend.
It snowed here overnight and I was so excited to see it when I woke up this morning!  Here is a picture of what we got (I think a little of it had melted at this point, I didn’t get up until about 9am)!

This is my Petunia (yes, that is her name) and she’s got a nice layer of snow on her that fell last night 😀  I love it, and can’t wait for more!  Snowfalls like this reminds me that we are really close to Hallowe’en.  When I was little, still in the trick-or-treating age, we used to have to get costumes big enough to be able to wear snow suits under them.  Hallowe’ens aren’t like that anymore though, so any snow we get before Hallowe’en I treasure 😀
Anywho, onto the nails.  Today I have for you my Day 4 design for the Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge that is being hosted by SassyNails/datyorkLOVES.  This Challenge is a lot of fun.  I am not really into Hallowe’en anymore, I really only loved it when I was younger because of the candy! 😀  Doing this Challenge has made me more excited for it though 🙂  Day 4’s Challenge is Mummy Nails.  I was going to do a water marble to create the bandages of the mummies, but I didn’t have a white that would work right, so that idea was nixed.

For this design I painted my nails 2 coats of the Sally Hansen white that came in an at-home French manicure kit.  (It is really thin and dried too fast when I tried to marble with it and my L’Oréal I Will! white is toast.)  I then used the saran wrap method to sponge on Julep Alyson to make it look antiquey.  Then I just created random lines and the eyes with my Jordana Pop Art Black Mark striper polish.  I topped the eyes with a dot of Revlon Top Speed Fire to give it an eerie, Hallowe’eny look.
I hope you guys like these.  They didn’t turn out how I wanted them to, but I still like them 🙂

Here is what the rest of the Challenge looks like!

Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge Day 3

Hey everybody!  Happy Thanksgiving Monday to all my Canadian readers!  I hope everyone had a delicious weekend 😀  I had 2 turkey dinners and forgot to wear my stretchy pants to both 😦
I have for you today my Day 3 for SassyNails/datyorkLOVES Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge.  Today’s Challenge is Bloody Nails.  I have been wanting to try nails like this for a little while now, though I did it different than people normally do.  Rather than putting a dot of polish and connecting it to a “French tip” I just painted lines of polish with the polish brush and connected them to a “French tip”, see how that’s slightly different?!  😀

I used Julep Alyson as my base colour then topped it off with Essie Matte About You top coat.  Then for the “blood” I used a no-name dark red polish that came in one of those make-up kits you can get around Christmas time.  I thought it was a perfect blood-red colour 🙂  I top-coated that with quick dry top coat to make it look really shiny, like fresh blood 🙂
I think this looks pretty sweet and very Hallowe’en-y 😀
Here is the rest of the Challenge, this is so much fun!

Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge Day 2

Good morning ladies!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend planned 🙂  To all my Canadian readers, Happy Thanksgiving (aka Happy Turkey Weekend)!  I LOVE turkey dinner, it comes a close second to any pasta dish for me.  I can sit and stuff my face till I’m busting at the seams and still manage to get in a piece of dessert, whether it’s Grandma’s homemade apple pie or my homemade cheesecake (which I will be baking later today for Tyler’s mom’s dinner tomorrow), lol!  What is everyone’s favourite part about Thanksgiving?
I have for you today my Day 2 design for the Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge hosted by SassyNails/datyorkLOVES.  Today’s Challenge is Matte Dotticure.  A couple months ago I got myself Essie’s Matte About You top coat.  I really love the look of matte polish.  There is something about it that makes me think it will feel like velvet when I touch it 🙂  And we all know how much I love dotticures 😀

For this design I used Julep Parker which is a true orange.  If you are looking for a true orange, I would recommend this one.  I topped it off with the Essie Matte About You top coat to soften it, I really loved this on it’s own.  Then I used Jordana Black for the dots.  I did not apply a top coat to this design as that would take away from the matte-ness of the orange.
And, as you can see, I snuck in a little water marble in there! 😉  First off, I meant to do my ring finger.  I did my chapsticking to my finger, got it in the water, pulled it out and went “awww man!  Wrong finger!”  But I made it work 🙂  I left my fingernail painted Parker with the Matte About You top coat and for the marble I used Jordana Black and Matte About You top coat  (that’s why you can see Parker between the black).  It came out glossier over the orange than I had pictured in my head, but the effect is still slightly there.  Then to tie in the dotticure part of today’s Challenge, I took an unfolded paperclip and used the end to dot on Parker onto the black portion of the marble.
I am soooooo proud of this manicure.  I love it so much! 😀
Here is what the rest of the Challenge looks like:

Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge Day 1

Hello lovely ladies!  I decided, after some major figuring out and planning, that I am going to start my designs for the Nail-aween Nail Art Challenge  hosted by SassyNails/datyorkLOVES.  I was going to do them every 3rd day of October, but with the couple other Challenges I have thrown into the mix, that isn’t going to work, so it’s going to be random posting, lol!
The Challenge for Day 1 is Water Marble.  I LOVE me some water marble nail art!  I have been wanting to do a water marble for a while now and just haven’t been able to make the time.  It’s like this Challenge was reading my mind!  You wanna talk about SPOOKY!  ;D

I love this colour combination.  I was going to do water marbling on my 4 fingers and a jack-o-lantern face on my thumb but my sister told me “no, that would ruin it” so I did my thumb as well.  My favourite nails are my index and middle 🙂
The colours I used are:
LA Colors Shock base colour
LA Colors Shock, Julep Mystery Yellow and Zoe, and Jordana Black for water marble
I will definitely try this colour combination again!  It looks so bold with the fall/Hallowe’en colours 😀

Here is what the whole Challenge looks like:
If you still want to participate you can, make sure to sign up before OCTOBER 10.  You can sign up on the Facebook Event page, and all the details are there as well.
