Howdie! Oops, I missed posting yesterday! Just for that I will show you 2 polishes in one post 😉 I’m also doing this because I can’t stand these polishes and they are no longer in my collection because of it, but thought I would share anyways because someone out there might like them.
Both pictures are 2 coats of each polish. All I can say about the formula, application AND removal of these polishes is “GROSS!” The formula is thick and gloopy and it gets worse as you are polishing, like instant thickening and drying. And removal, wow! I even tried the foil method (with my Julep Party’s Over Glitter Removal caps) and the polish did NOT want to come off. The, after scrubbing the glitters (after sitting with the caps on for 10 minutes), there was glitter everywhere. *sigh* I guess I shouldn’t have had high hopes for these since they are basically a mix of different sized glitters in slightly tinted bases, and they are “drugstore” brand, which I don’t normally have an issue with. If you like textures similar to Zoya Pixies or Julie G Gumdrops, these are definitely not for you. The texture of these is SUPER gritty, they catch on everything and I have an all around dislike for them. They are much prettier in the bottles on the store shelf, and that’s where they should stay if you want my honest opinion.
I did wonder about Mayan Riveria and a glitter gradient with it, so I tried it out over 2 colours (no top coat) – Sinful Colors Exotic Green (left) and Julep Laura (right). They definitely look much better like this, but because they are so gloopy, I think application would be a pain in the butt to have it look right on all 10 nails.
Sorry Revlon, this collection is a major fail for me 😦 What do you guys think? I can’t be bothered to keep these in my collection because I know I will NEVER use them again, and I don’t want to burden someone else with them, so these are headed into the garbage 😥 RIP polishes.
I’m still here! It’s been a busy couple weeks, so I apologize for not posting the last few Fridays. I figure I better post during the week cause it’s been so long! With less than 70 days till the wedding (EEK!!), there is starting to be more and more stress factors for me. I feel like there is so much that still needs to be done, but that I can’t do them yet.
Let’s get right to it, shall we? Continue reading
Good morning everyone! I have a mani for you today that I am pretty much in love with! I have been trying to wrack my brain to come up with some nail art ideas, and when I painted my nails with Julep Blake on Saturday, this came to me! Come check it out!
I started with 3 coats of Julep Blake. When that was completely dry, I used some striping tape to tape off half of my nail, and then applied Revlon Graffiti glitter top coat to the right half. Then, when I applied the top coat over that, I applied the 2mm Square Studs I got from Born Pretty Store for review. I first tried the dotting-tool-in-water to try to apply the studs, but that wasn’t working for me (see the wonkiness of the studs on the index nail??). So I wrapped a piece of scotch tape around one end of my dotting tool, sticky side out, to pick up the studs and that worked much better 🙂
Have you ever had a mani come to mind when you put your base colour on?
Hello lovely readers!! How many of you are still up?! This girl is soon heading to bed, just waiting on mom and dad to stop in to pick something up on their way home and I will be hitting the hay.
I have a quick, and very late, Swatch-It-Up-Saturday post for you.
This is 2 coats of Essie Armed & Ready. I saw this polish swatched on a blog a while back, I can’t remember which blog it was now, but Amber from And Then There Was Polish
sent it to me in the box she sent to me for my birthday back in April! This is a gorgeous dark grey polish with a beautiful copper shimmer. The copper shimmer isn’t always visible, but it jumps out in the bright sunshine! I really love the way this looks on the nail, and will definitely be using this more in the future!!
This is 2 coats of Revlon Top Speed Jaded. I really LOVE this colour – it’s a perfect mint green colour and it applies great! The first coat was kind of thin and streaky, but the second coat really filled in the colour and made it opaque. This is a great base colour for lots of different nail art!
This is 2 coats of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On. This is the only true-white I own, and it’s a great polish. It does apply kind of streaky, so I did a layer of matte top coat between the coats of white polish, which I will be doing every time I need a white base colour from now on – this trick is a Godsend! I do notice that this polish does get pretty thick when you get about half-way done the bottle, and before I owned polish thinner, I would just toss the half bottle and get a new one as the Xtreme Wear polishes aren’t overly pricey (about $3.50 a bottle at my local drugstore I think).
That’s it for today. I may or may not have a Swatch-It-Up-Saturday post next weekend – it’s a long weekend here next weekend, so Tyler, Owen and I are heading up north to camp with some friends for the weekend! No hydro, no water, sleeping in a tent – that’s my kind of R&R 😀
Good evening readers! Today I have something a little different. As most of you probably know by now, this week the beauty world lost a very beloved member. Now, I’m not going to lie, I don’t really know a lot about this as I have not been following it until now, but just reading what other people and bloggers have been posting this last week about Talia Joy Castellano have really shown me what strength and beauty really are. At only 13 and being battling two forms of cancer (neuroblastoma and preleukemia), she was made an honorary Cover Girl while on the Ellen DeGeneres show, which you can watch here
She’s just the cutest thing, and SO gorgeous!! It really breaks my heart that the world lost her, even though I haven’t been following the story until now.
, the lovely Nicole from Nail Polish Wars (also the brain behind Elixir Lacquers) came up with a beautiful and easy way for the beauty and nail communities to remember Talia Joy. The last mani photo that Talia Joy posted on her Instagram
was of a mint mani, so Nicole asked everyone in the beauty and nail communities to band together to create mint manis in her memory, and I couldn’t help but jump on the wagon.
This is what I came up with:
This is 2 coats of Revlon Top Speed Jaded with a glitter gradient using Nicole by OPI Inner Sparkle. I was at a bit of a loss after I got Jaded on my nails, and finally decided on a glitter gradient with Inner Sparkle solely for the name and how it would represent the inner sparkle that Talia Joy had.
I am proud to be part of the nail community in times like these, and I know Talia Joy is beaming down on all of us! I hope you will join in with us and do a mint mani for Talia Joy today!
Howdy guys! I hope everyone had a good weekend! I meant to get this up yesterday, but ran out of time! It’s the last week before moving day, and things are getting a lot hectic around here, so this is going to be a short and sweet kind of post! This will likely be one of my last posts before I move, and for maybe a few days after too. We won’t have internet right away, so if I seem to be MIA, that’s why 🙂 I thought I would try to get ahead in my Challenge nails, but it hasn’t happened yet 😦
L is for Ladybugs
Aren’t they cute?! I’m pretty proud of these little guys 😀 I used 2 coats of Revlon Top Speed Fire as my base colour, then using my Jordana Pop Art striping polish in Black Mark, I painted a vertical line down the middle of my nails. Then I created a half moon and filled it in black for the heads. Then I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On to create the eyeballs, and Jordana Black for the dots and pupils.
They are super easy to do and so fun to look at 😀
Happy Saturday! Do you guys have any exciting plans for the weekend? Tyler and I will be working on getting all the last minute things sorted out because in ONE WEEK we will be moving into our house!!! PS – don’t be surprised if I don’t post that day 😉
It’s Swatch-It-Up-Saturday again!
This is 2 coats of Avon Aqua Fantasy. This is my favourite Avon of all the ones I have! It’s a beautiful aqua colour creme polish with an ever so slight pearly shimmer to it. It doesn’t translate the best on the nail, but it’s visible in the bottle. The formula on this is great, so smooth and easy to work with! Like all Avon polishes, the formula is a touch on the thinner side but I also find they don’t get thick and goopy either, no matter how long you have them 😀
This is 2 coats of China Glaze Water You Waiting For?. I have had this polish for a while, Amber from And Then There Was Polish got it for me when China Glaze polishes were on sale at Sally’s. This is a GORGEOUS polish! It’s a green and blue glitter in a blue tinted base. It’s a VERY dense glitter, I have not put this over a base colour 😀 Howwwwwever.. this polish was SO thick and was not very easy to work with. This is a major disappointment for this polish because it is so gorgeous. I will be trying polish thinner in this because I can’t part with it, lol!
This is 2 coats of Julep Shenae. This is a really pretty minty teal polish with a slight blue-green shimmer to it. It’s more evident in the bottle than it is on the nail, but it’s still gorgeous 🙂 It would probably require 3 coats in order to not have slight bald spots, but I was doing nail art over it so I didn’t worry about it 🙂 It was a little on the thick side, but still work-with-able.
This is 2 coats of Revlon Top Speed Fire. I looooove this red polish! It’s not as orange-y as it appears in the picture, it’s a true red! It applied super smooth, and was almost a one-coater, but applied a second coat for good measure. If you need a true red polish in your collection, I highly recommend this one!
And there is Swatch-It-Up-Saturday for this week! Which colour is your favourite this week? Have you tried any of these polishes?
