Julie G Silver Bells

Morning, morning!  And Happy Monday!!  Tyler and I went shopping on Saturday and the stores are being filled with Christmas decorations and all things red and green!  YAHOO!!!!  59 more sleeps!!

Today I have another texture for you – there is an end in sight for these, I promise 😉

This is 2 coats of Silver Bells.  I really like this one and I think it would be a cool look to include in this mani style just to give it something a little extra.  This is a perfect silver sandpaper-like texture that isn’t super gritty and doesn’t catch on anything.  That is one thing I love the most about the Julie G Gumdrop polishes.  Now I just need them to make some pastel coloured ones and I would be happy-happy 😀

Julie G Blueberry Fizz

Hello lovely readers! I missed posting yesterday. My day went to hell in a hand basket just after 8am and it didn’t stop until I got home, at which time I was too flustered and frustrated to do anything other than eat dinner and hold the couch down until bedtime.

I have another texture for you today – Julie G Blueberry Fizz from the original Gumdrops collection.

This is 2 coats of Blueberry Fizz, it could have used a 3rd coat though.  I’m still not too sure about this polish.  Again, with the hex glitters in it, I think that’s what turns me off the most.  The colour is OK, but maybe it doesn’t work with my skintone and that’s why I’m not over the moon for it.  I am terrible at deciding if something works or doesn’t work with my skintone.  I think this would be a great colour to pair with a wintery mani.

Holiday Nail Art Challenge Week 2

Hola readers!!  I know I said that I would be on the ball this week with Nail Polish Canada’s Holiday Nail Art Challenge, and I wasn’t.. FAIL!  I did have my mani done a few days ago, I just was being lazy and didn’t get the post up.
This week’s theme was Decorations.  My idea came into my mind immediately when I saw the e-mail, and this is what I came up with!

I started out with 2 coats of Julep Petra – this is a GORGEOUS colour!  It’s so beautiful!!  Then I topped it with the Julep matte top coat.  On my ring nail, I taped off a triangle, and then used striping tape to create “garland” lines on the tree, and filled in the triangle with JulieG Mistletoe.  I added a silver rhinestone tree topper and dots of Julep Felicity, for the decorations.
Then I stamped the line design from BM-319 using Julep Felicity and Harley for tinsel 🙂
I really love how this mani turned out, it’s exactly like I had it in my head, and that’s always rewarding!
What do you guys think?  Make sure to head on over to the Nail Polish Canada Holiday Nail Art Challenge page and vote for your favourite Decorations design.

Swatch-It-Up-Saturday Nov 30

Evening!  I almost forgot to post this today!  Well, here we are on the last day of November, the Christmas season will start in full swing tomorrow, and I will be able to plug my Christmas lights in 😀  YAY!  Tyler and I put the outside lights up a few weekends ago, taking advantage of a warm day, but I haven’t been “allowed” to turn them on until December 1st.
It’s Swatch-It-Up-Saturday and I have a LOT of catching up to do.  This is going to be a picture-heavy post, so let’s get right to it.
This is 2 coats of butter LONDON Jack the Lad.  I love this green!  It’s a perfect Christmas-y green polish, and it applied super smoothly.  And a bonus?  It removed just as easy as a creme even though it’s full of microglitters!
This is 2 coats of China Glaze Blue Bells Ring.  I love the colour of this polish, however it wasn’t the easiest to apply or take off.  The brush streaked the polish pretty bad, so there were some silver streaks through the polish even though you can’t see it in the picture.  This is also a stainer – the skin around my nails look like I beat up a smurf!  It’s not quite as bright as it’s showing in the picture, but it does glow 😀

This is 2 coats of China Glaze Get Carried Away.  I really love this polish!  It’s black, silver and rose-gold hex glitters, microglitters, and black bar glitters in a black jelly base.  You could layer this over black, but I think it looks great on its own over bare nails too 🙂
This is 2 coats of Deborah Lippmann Raspberry Beret.  I just want to take a moment to say that I love the mini Deborah Lippmann polish bottles!  They are just so cute!  This polish is GOR-GEOUS!!!  I think this is one of my top favourite polishes in my collection!   This is a raspberry jelly polish jam-packed with flakie glitters.  It reminds me of raspberry jam on my nails 😀  Om nom nom!
This is 2 coats of Elixir Lacquers With a K.  It’s a perfect pink jelly polish loaded with holo micro and hex glitters.  The pictures shown on the listing for this polish are very deceiving.  This is a bright pink polish, it makes me think of “bedazzled Barbie” 😀  I put this on in October for Breast Cancer Awareness.. and you can tell from that just how long I have been stashing pictures!
This is 3 coats of Girly Bits Glo Worm.  I got this for my youngest sister for Christmas last year, without knowing that she was more of a pink polish person.  So I told her that if she doesn’t want it, I want to add it to my stash 😉  I’m glad I did, I love this!  It’s highligher-bright green jelly polish with a gold shimmer throughout.  This is definitely unique in my stash, and can’t wait to see what else I can come up with for this one.  You can find Girly Bits polish on the Girly Bits online store.
This is 2 coats (1 regular, 1 thick/dabbing) of Julep Erica, the mystery glitter polish from the Julep New Year’s Eve Mystery Box last year, and my first time using it.. I know, I know!!  This is a stunning black, brown and silver full coverage glitter.  I love it, and not just because it’s my (correctly spelled) namesake polish, it’s gorgeous!  I wore this without a top coat because I figured it would gobble up the top coat like no tomorrow 🙂
This is 2 coats of Julep Karmen.  I really love this polish, it’s perfect for fall!  It’s a gorgeous deep red polish with gold shimmer.  It applied super easy, and no staining.  It’s like fall in a bottle, and I think this might be a close runner-up for a wedding polish colour 😉

This is 2 coats of Julep Kennedy.  I wasn’t too sure about this polish, but when I put it on I actually liked it.  This is one of the most surprising polishes in my collection. This applied great, and while the first coat was a little streaky, the second coat evened everything out 🙂

This is 2 coats of Julep Nadia.  Again, a surprising polish.  I am not a fan of the colour yellow in general, but yellow polishes tend to draw me in for some reason.  I love the shimmer in this polish.  The only downside to this polish is that it did stain my nails a little bit, so just a word of caution to you 🙂  The shimmer in this polish is perfect, and I think this will make a great Christmas polish 😀

This is 2 coats of Julep Sadie, one of the Sea Salt polishes.  I love this polish!  It’s gorgeous!  Many people have mentioned that this is very similar, if not the same, as Zoya Dahlia.  The sparkle in this polish is perfect, and catches the light just right.  I really love textured polishes, and this is one of my favourites 🙂

This is 2 coats of JulieG Mistletoe!  I love me some JulieG textured polishes.  This is one of the polishes from the Holiday Frosted Gumdrops collection that was just released.  This is a perfect Christmas green polish, and applied perfect, as is typical of the other JulieG Gumdrop polishes.
This is 2 coats of OPI Get Your Number.  I like this polish, but after wearing it, I decided it just wasn’t for me.  The base is very jelly-like, as you can tell from the visible nail line in the pictures.  It’s not as visible in person.  I do love the shimmer of this polish, and the texture is nice and fine, not too gritty.  I prefer the JulieG Gumdrop polishes over this, and the other OPI Liquid Sands polishes I have tried.
This is 2 coats of Sinful Colors Exotic Green.  This is a great holiday green polish.  I used it in lots of nail art last year for Christmas nails throughout December, but this is the first time I have used it as a base for anything.  The application of this polish is great – and this polish is great for water marbling!
Well, that wraps up Swatch-It-Up-Saturday for this week.  Sorry it took me so long to get a post up, but as you can see, I have been busy working on swatches.

Swatch-It-Up-Saturday Aug 31

Happy Saturday!  I have lots of swatches to show you today, I have been stashing the pictures for a couple weeks 🙂  So let’s get right to it 😀

This is 2 coats of Bondi NYPD that I received in the very first month of their subscription boxes.  Honestly, I could have got away with only ONE coat, but I put the second on for good measure!  The formula of this polish is PERFECTION!!  That is the only way I can describe it!  I also love the brush of this polish.  It applied so smoothly and evenly.  The colour is a touch darker in person, but it’s absolutely gorgeous and will definitely be a go-to blue polish for me 😀  You can sign up for the Bondi subscription box here.  So far I have been nothing but pleased with Bondi 😀
This is 2 coats of China Glaze Naked.  This is a PERFECT Barbie pink!  It’s shimmery and girly, and perfect for any occasion!  The application was really easy with this polish.  This is the second time I have worn this polish and I fell head over heels for it when I put it on again 😀  (The first time I wore it was with this mani.)  I highly recommend this polish for anyone who is looking for “that perfect pink”!
This is 2 coats of Gel II Deep Ocean gel polish.  I put this polish on so that my polish and nails would survive a weekend of camping for the Canadian Civic Day long weekend at the beginning of August.  I put it on the Thursday before we left, and unfortunately it was starting to chip and peel by Sunday afternoon.  Keep in mind that I was camping in a tent, and not staying at the Hilton, so we were living pretty ruggedly for the weekend.  Normally the Gel II polishes last at least a week for me, if not longer.  I usually get bored with the colour before it needs to be changed 🙂  I did notice with this colour that you can really see the VNL through the polish.  I wonder if doing 3 coats of the gel colour before applying the top coat would help with this??

This is 2 coats of Julie G Tangerine Dream.  I LOOOOOVE textured polishes.  I honestly didn’t think that I would, I thought they would be too weird for me but I actually can’t get enough of them!  The polishes from the Julie G Gumdrops collections are my ideal textured polish though because the grit is very fine and SUPER sparkly!  I can’t stop looking at my nails when I have these on!  The formula was perfect for this colour and the picture above shows my nails with NO clean-up 🙂

This is 2 coats of OPI Suze & the 7 Düssledorfs.  This polish is a touch more red in person, but it’s still really pretty!  Purple is one of those colours that all cameras hate to capture properly 😦  This polish has a beautiful shimmer through it that flashes indigo and blue.  If you are a purple lover (like me) I recommend you try this one out!  The formula was great and really easy to work with 😀
And there you have it for this edition of Swatch-It-Up-Saturday.  I will try to be more constant with my posting.  Things are starting to slow down for me with summer soon coming to a close.  Moan and groan if you want, it’s happening, and the snow will be here before you know it (thank goodness!) 🙂

T is for Textured

Evening ladies and gents!  I hope everyone has been enjoying their week so far!  We’re more than half-way through to the weekend 😀 YAY!
Today I have my T nails for the ABC Nail Art Challenge.

T is for Textured

For this, I used 2 coats of Julie G Tangerine Dream, and then with the polish brush I put a few blobs of Julep Tracy on top.  Then I outlined the blobs of Tracy and added a couple extra dots and “c” shapes using Julep Sadie to create a leopard/cheetah print (I can’t tell the difference).
Because all of the polishes I used were textured polishes, I did not apply a top coat so that the texture would remain.
When I finished this, all I wanted to do was shout “YABBA DABBA DOOOOOO!” and sing the theme song for The Flinstones 😉  Doesn’t it remind you of Fred’s suit?
Alright, maybe it’s not exactly the same, but it was the first thing I thought when I looked at the finished product 🙂  And I have all the colours right 😉
I hope you enjoy the rest of your week!  Tyler and I are going to his friend’s wedding on Sunday; Tyler is in the wedding party, so I get to see him completely spiffed up!  I have decided on what I am wearing as well, and I plan to coordinate my nails as well 😀
Make sure to post your “T” mani pictures on my Facebook page so I can share them with everyone!

Julie G Sugar Rush

All polishes are purchased with my own money unless stated otherwise.
Today’s the day!!!  Tyler and I are going for our house inspection today!  And then the house is ours, and we will have possession June 21!  I can’t believe it’s going to be here so fast! 😀  I will be posting pictures on the Facebook page later this week for you guys to check out 😀

Today I have for you another polish from the JulieG Frosted Gumdrops collection – this is Sugar Rush.

This is 2 coats of Sugar Rush without a top coat, just like Hot Cinnamon 🙂  I really LOVE these!  I am going to have to get/try some more textured polishes!  This is a gorgeous dark orange polish and while it’s not as bright and in your face as Julep Kaylen, I still think it gives some oomph to your nails!

As with Hot Cinnamon, it has a gorgeous shimmer to it even though it dries matte.  It makes me think of the peel of a tangerine orange because they have a darker skin than a regular orange.  I will definitely be wearing these Gumdrop polishes more often 😀

After I polished, I decided that I have all these fimo canes sitting around and I haven’t used them.. at all.. so I thought I would try them out on the textured polish.

I chose a bold blue butterfly and sliced it up with my fimo slicing blade from BornPrettyStore.  Slicing fimos takes a LOT of practice to get it the right thickness – you want them pretty thin, without only slicing half of the design.  I probably cut about 20 slices and got 10 usable ones.  Then I put some top coat on my nail only where I wanted to put the butterfly and stuck the butterfly to it.  Normally you would then top it with a top coat to secure it to the nail, but I wanted to keep Sugar Rush in it’s normal textured form, so I didn’t apply the top coat.  I recommend the top coat over top when using fimo canes because I was peeling these off the next day 😦

The JulieG Frosted Gumdrops can be found on the Jesse’s Girl Cosmetics site and in Rite-Aid stores in the US.
I found the fimo canes on eBay – you just have to search “nail fimo canes” and there will be lots of different vendors with lots of different designs 🙂
